Over the last few years I’ve done thousands of treatments and I’ve always been aware that most back pain is related to weakness and/or stiffness in the core muscles (trunk) of the body, especially amongst office workers who sit at a desk all day.
Vibration therapy has been around quite a long time, in the form of either some simple plug in hand held devices or the vibrating platforms that you can stand or sit on such as the power plate machines......
More people than ever are incorporating strength training into their fitness routine. A balanced exercise routine of cardiovascular exercise, strength training and flexibility work will always keep you in a better state. Weight training and strength training in particular can actually be very therapeutic for your muscles because of the increased blood flow to specific muscles which many of you will know of when you experience the ‘pump’.
During the spring and summer months there are an increasing amount of marathons, half marathons, and outdoor events that have become really popular for a lot of people that I treat, it’s human nature to rise to a challenge and this fuels the desire to push oneself a bit further, even the most sedentary individuals are getting the urge to do more exercise and start doing the occasional 10k race or the increasingly popular Park Run events that usually take place on Saturday mornings across the country (and now globally)....
For a long time I have seen how self massage can help decrease pain and maintain the benefits of massage between appointments.....
People’s perception of any kind of sports massage treatment usually involves the use of oil directly onto the skin, and this is the most favourable method, but it’s not entirely necessary on every occasion...
One of the most common complaints that I see is shoulder pain...
A lot of people that I treat have ongoing aches and pains that can be directly linked to the nature of the work that they do. Sometimes it may be related to poor posture, sometimes it is due to a lot of manual handling, but whatever the cause the end result can be a lot of discomfort for the person affected.
Sports massage is a combination of deep tissue massage techniques that are very effective for loosening up areas of tightness in muscles.
Back pain affects most people at some point in their lifetime, old or young, active or inactive, the reasons are varied but I’ve found a few similarities between the cases I see whilst treating people using sports massage therapy.
