Stretching and mobilising muscles is an important part of keeping your body in check, whether you’ve been injured or to reduce the risk of injury, I find that the nature of my work involves a lot of similar and repetitive movement which can create a build up of tension in the posterior chain muscles, particularly the hamstring and calf muscles from the continual flexion and extension of my torso whilst working on people. There are a lot of mixed opinions on the pros and cons of stretching, or whether it should be strong static stretching or simply light stretching with mobilisation of the joint/limb, but either way, moderation is key and ideally get your muscles warmed up a bit first before going in to a deeper stretch, this is important as the connective tissue and muscles can be a little less elastic, as you get older, particularly if you’re in the ‘over 40’s’ age group.
